Official Competition Rules

Last updated: [DATE]
Note to Lindsey: Every [PLACEHOLDER] below needs a real value before this goes live. This structure follows the disclosures required under Section 36(5) of the Consumer Protection Act, 68 of 2008, and Regulation 11.

1. The Promoter

This competition is promoted by [COMPANY / TRADING NAME] (registration number [REG NUMBER, if applicable]), of [PHYSICAL ADDRESS] ("the Promoter").

2. Entry Period

The competition opens on [OPENING DATE] and closes on [CLOSING DATE AND TIME]. Entries received after this time will not be considered.

3. How to Enter & Entry Fee

Entrants may enter by completing the online entry form at [ENTRY FORM URL], providing their first name, surname, and (optionally) a valid mobile number, and selecting the number of entries they wish to purchase.

This is a paid competition. Each entry costs [PRICE PER ENTRY, e.g. R20.00], payable in South African Rand. Payment is processed securely by [PAYMENT PROCESSOR NAME, e.g. Yoco/PayFast] via card or Instant EFT. The Promoter does not receive or store card or bank account details — these are handled entirely by the payment processor.

Skill-testing requirement: before payment, every entrant must correctly complete a skill-testing puzzle presented on the entry form. Entry is not possible without solving this puzzle correctly — payment cannot be attempted until it has been completed. This requirement exists because South African law does not permit paid entry into a competition determined purely by chance without a genuine skill element; completing the puzzle is that skill element.

An entry is only valid and complete once payment has been confirmed and a unique ticket ID has been issued. A purchase for which payment fails, is cancelled, or is not confirmed does not constitute a valid entry, and no ticket will be issued.

4. Who May Enter

The competition is open to South African residents, except:

Entrants under 18: a person under the age of 18 may be entered into this competition only by a parent or legal guardian, who must be the one to complete payment. The paying adult is the entrant of record for the purposes of these rules and is bound by them; if the child's ticket is drawn as a winner, the prize (or arrangements for its collection) will be communicated to and coordinated through that parent or legal guardian.

By entering, entrants (and, where applicable, the parent or guardian entering on a child's behalf) confirm that none of the exclusions above apply to them.

5. The Prize(s)

[DESCRIBE THE PRIZE(S), INCLUDING QUANTITY AND APPROXIMATE VALUE]

Prizes are not transferable or exchangeable for cash, unless otherwise stated by the Promoter.

6. How Winners Are Determined

After the closing date, winner(s) will be selected by random computerised draw from all valid, complete entries — meaning entries for which the skill-testing puzzle was correctly completed and payment was confirmed. The draw will be overseen and certified by an independent [accountant / registered auditor / attorney / advocate], in accordance with Regulation 11(5) of the CPA Regulations.

The number of winners selected will be [NUMBER OF WINNERS / OR "as stated at the time of the draw"].

7. Notification & Prize Collection

Winners will be notified via [SMS / phone / email] within [X] days of the draw. Prizes must be collected/redeemed within [Y] days of notification, at [COLLECTION LOCATION / METHOD], and proof of identity may be required. Unclaimed prizes after this period may be forfeited and [re-drawn / retained by the Promoter — specify].

8. Payment, Failed Transactions & Refunds

All entry fees are processed by [PAYMENT PROCESSOR NAME] and are subject to that processor's own terms. If a payment is deducted but no ticket is issued (for example, due to a technical error), contact [CONTACT EMAIL] with your payment reference and this will be corrected or refunded — no entrant will be charged without receiving a valid ticket in return. Except where required by law or in the case of such an error, entry fees are not refundable once a valid ticket has been issued, including where an entrant does not win.

9. Marketing & Publicity

A winner may be asked to participate in marketing activities relating to this competition, including the use of their name and photograph. In accordance with Regulation 11(3) of the CPA Regulations, any winner has the right to decline such participation without forfeiting their prize.

10. Availability of These Rules

A copy of these rules is available free of charge from [CONTACT NAME / EMAIL / PHONE], and online at this page, for the duration of the competition and for the required retention period thereafter.

11. Personal Information

Information collected as part of this competition — including payment-related information processed by our payment processor — is handled in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013. See our Privacy Notice for full details.

12. General

The Promoter reserves the right to amend these rules at any time, subject to the requirements of the Consumer Protection Act. The Promoter's decision on all matters relating to this competition is final.
